At Vespers
music (samohlasen)
At "O Lord, I have cried", there are three stichera for the holy martyr.
Tone 4, special melody Jako doblja. Thrice-holy hierarch, * having struggled faithfully as an athlete, * unshakable pillar of the Church, * veritable wonder-worker and gift of God, * illustrious Theodotus, hieromartyr, * you were truly a shining torch, * a paradise having in its midst Jesus Christ, the Tree of Life!
Scourged by leather whips, * stretched on a tree and raked by iron hooks, * you were thrown into a dungeon. * Enduring the horror of nails through your feet, * fastening you to a heated rack, * you remained unshaken, O hieromartyr Theodotus, * glorifying Him who gave you the strength to persevere.
By the vigor of your struggles, * you smothered the enemy and his power, * bringing him down to defeat. * Rising up radiantly, you went to dwell in the Kingdom on high, * bearing your crown, for you earned the light and joy of the festive assembly. * Now, O Theodotus, you intercede for the salvation of those who honor you, * O illustrious glory of martyrs.
Glory, now and ever – Theotokion, or Stavrotheotokion
Troparion, Tone 4. You shared in the apostles’ way of life * and succeeded to their throne, * divinely inspired bishop. * You found access to contemplation in the active life. * Therefore, you rightly taught the word of truth * and struggled for the faith to the shedding of your blood. * O priest-martyr Theodotus, * pray to Christ our God to save our souls.
